My visual journey to explore the majesty and fluidity of the Great Lakes through the lens of Mark Rothko’s iconic style. This series of photographs captures the essence of these vast bodies of water, paying homage to the masterful abstract expressionist’s emphasis on colour and form. The Great Lakes, with their boundless expanse, offer a unique canvas to explore Rothko’s philosophy. The lakes’ vastness is a testament to the profound expanse of nature, and the play of light, shadow, and colour on their surfaces speaks to the human spirit’s longing for both solitude and connection with the world.

By isolating and magnifying the lakes’ intricate colour palettes, I reveal the profound beauty that can be found in their ceaseless movement and transformation.
